Contextual Ad Test

These photos (and text) originally appeared on ChartAttack.com in January, 1998 after Bran Van 3000 played at the Opera House following the release of their classic album Glee featuring the Drinking in LA anthem. They were taken with the original Sony Mavica (my first digital camera) and badly optimized for the web with (I think) JASC Software's Paint Shop Pro (the best digital imaging software I had access to at the time). I was a big fan of BV3 (after seeing their debut at the previous Spring's NXNE) and wrote an article for Chart Magazine after interviewing James DiSalvio (the collective's principal) before the album's release. You can see the original layout for these photos at: www.chartattack.com/road/reviews/bv3/
Bran Van 3000 Live at the Opera House in Toronto - January 23, 1998

Montreal's bombastic Bran Van 3000 stormed into town on a cold Friday night to play a packed all-ages show. It was their third performance in this city and their growth as a band was noticeable and remarkable. Playing off the songs on their album Glee, they spun a web of heavy, danceable beats, smooth vocal harmonies and trippy grooves. Their bass player also stepped out of the background for the first time in Toronto and wowed the crowd with some soulful vocals.

Bran Van just signed a very major international deal with Captitol Records in the US, so expect to hear much more of them in the future. Also watch out for the Mount Real remixes of Drinking in LA.

For more information on Bran Van 3000, check out their Not-Quite-Official Web Site.
