Step 4: Managing Changes
It is important to define a process for managing changes from this point forward. A formal "Change Request Form" and approval process for making amendments to your Project Scope Document will eliminate the lion's share of requests (many of which will be frivolous). The rest of them should be detailed by the person making the request and submitted to you. You should then determine the cost and time required to implement the change(s) and calculate how this will effect the greater project definitions. As well, you should make a recommendation about the degree to which the request is reasonable. Your information, with the original request, should then be reviewed and approved through appropriate channels. When approval is received, revise your Project Scope Document and make sure all stakeholders receive a current version.
Remember to manage expectations. If you do this, you will live longer.
